You cannot become the people you follow by doing nothing, even if you follow them for 10 years.
In this post, I’ll show you how you’ve been missing out and expose two practical ways you can get the best out of social media.
If you’ve not read my last post, this is a great time to stop and go back to it to give you more context.
Let’s get right into it.
The first step is following the right people… But that is not enough.
You may have all the “right people” on your list, see their posts, maybe even like and make comments like “wow, you blow my mind” and still not learn anything.
This is because blowing of mind is really not sufficient for SUSTAINABLE progress.
I started following John Obidi in February 2018.
At this time, I had just been introduced to the Smart B’camp and was wondering what the funny name was about.
So I started scrolling through posts and I found out that there are levels to this thing.
Before now, I never really believed people can read a long post on social media with the whole “short attention span” thing.
But there I was, scrolling… And scrolling and scrolling, reading a post by J.O and not knowing how far I’ve gone.
There are levels to this thing.
In one particular post, the title was UNADVERTISED CONSEQUENCES. J.O talked about how some actions may be encouraged, but the consequences downplayed.
I read that post three times.
The first was to learn the lessons in the post.
The second and third were to learn the pattern of the post. How the title was formed around the message. The storytelling pattern used. The repeating of a phrase to convey importance. So many things.
You cannot become the people you follow by doing nothing… Even if you follow them for 10 years.
I’ll keep this post brief, but I’ll give you two things you can start doing today that will make you stand out in what you choose to learn.
1. LEARNING WHAT PEOPLE TEACH.
Every king has a way of communicating authority.
One of these ways is by teaching their audience what they know, either by their own learning process or by experience.
Most people don’t stay long without teaching a concept or sharing a valuable information.
You must master the art of identifying the lessons shared by those you follow and picking up the ways you can apply them in your own life and business.
If you read a post that says “5 apps you can use for graphic design on your smartphone”, you should choose one of the apps shared, go ahead and study it till it becomes your own experience.
Complete learning ends in an opportunity to practice, be it medicine and surgery or Digital marketing.
2. LEARNING WHAT PEOPLE DON’T TEACH.
There are some things the are never shared.
Some things are taught. Some others are caught.
You must be observant enough to learn beyond what is taught.
Examples of things that may never be taught are:
Consistency – How often the people you follow share their content.
Quality – The kind of text, audio, picture and videos shared… How they look, how they sound, how they feel.
Storytelling pattern – How they convey their information to you.
Systems – How they deliver their value to you… Landing pages, automated mails, link shorteners, etc.
You cannot become the people you follow if you do nothing… Even if you follow them for 10 years.
Learn what they teach… And practice.
Learn what they do not teach… And practice.
Social media is great… But it is waiting for you to use it right.
